In 2000 the musicians Grant Smith and Jane Wang together with movement artists Liz Roncka and Olivier Besson developed a wonderful new approach to the dance concert; utilizing movement and sound cues that signaled improvised sections of movement repeated by others allowed them to fuse a mix of choreographed and free elements. The resulting concerts are a combination of complex flow charts and carefree movement, with musicians moving and movers making music. These performances are marked by an intimacy and playfulness that unify dancers, musicians and the audience.

For the two concerts at FiveMyles on Oct. 21 and 22 the Moving Sound performers are joined by musicians Judit Balvanyos and Zsolt Varga from Budapest. Moving Sound was awarded an Artslink grant to work with the two musicians in Budapest in 2002, where they received standing ovations at the prestigious Trafo House of Contemporary Art and the Ludwig Museum. Boston-based Moving Sound has performed at the Asian-American Jazz Festival, Mobius, the BU Dance Showcase, the Tremont Theater and other Boston music and dance venues. They performed at Canal Danse in Paris and at PASIC in Louisville, Kentucky.Judit Balvanyos is the founder and musical director of the group Balvanyos Ensemble in Hungary.
