Joint opening reception: ALOE (Main Gallery) and IWE (PlusSpace)

Opening reception for two exhibitions:

ALOE: A Language of Exaltation is an exhibition of work by artists who produce work that is steeped in a knowledge of tradition, yet is uniquely subversive, daring to challenge current customs, practices, and parameters.
The artists were selected by curator Larry Qualls, and the work was chosen by each practitioner.
Featured artists: Amy Jenkins, Christopher K. Ho., Erika Ranee, John Jurayj, Rob Swainston, Sally Webster, Tyler Vlahovich

IWE presents the three dimensional mandala works by Larry Weekes. Weekes practices revolves around the idea that we are all interconnected. He sees his mandala collages as depictions of "individual energies" and "unique cells", that can be combined to create "organisms of universal beauty".

An outdoor installation, Crown Heights Anthology: Sidewalk Stories, will also open on Sept. 10th. This collection of true stories, memories, and encounters on the streets are told by residents and neighbors of Crown Heights. Pick up the telephone and hear the voices of people you may pass every day. Created by Xandra Clark. Music composed and performed by Taja Cheek and Josh Marcus
