marigram [mar-i-gram] noun: A marigram is a record of the sea level; since sea level is not constant, the marigram is generally fluctuating. Not only tides but also seiches, forced waves, and long-term fluctuations (stagional or secular) are recorded.

Marigram began from a 2015 conversation between Annie Wang and Mohamed Yousry Shika, when the Black Lives Matter protests were stirring up their respective memories of Tiananmen Square 1989 and Tahrir Square 2011. This performance invites you into a constructed public square where we use a live solo dancer accompanied by video installations to evoke the fluctuations and tide-like patterns of mass protests.

Marigram is a collaborative effort of imagination, memory and love by dancers Annie Wang and Mohamed Yousry Shika together with lighting/set designer Tuce Yasak, film artists Yuan Liu, Kay Hung, and Francesco Chiot, and photographers Zeyad Gohary and An Debie. It is made possible with grants from CEC Artslink and the Brooklyn Arts Council, as well as support from New York Live Arts, BRIC Arts, and Mark Morris Dance Center.

Doors for the installation open at 7pm, performance starts at 7:30 and runs approx. 45 minutes.
