Set in the middle of a race revolution, "The Slave" depicts the fierce struggle of Walker Vessels, a Black father trying to reclaim his daughters from his estranged white wife. Written in 1964 -- the same year as his more well-known "Dutchman" -- "The Slave" has only had one NYC production, as far as we know. Now, more than 50 years later we intend to bring it back into public consciousness. This reading will be free of charge and feature Julian Rozzell, Jr. andLibby King, with direction by Alec Duffy.

JACK is an OBIE-winning 50-seat performance venue led by Alec Duffy and Jordana De La Cruz. Duffy founded JACK in 2012 in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn with several co-founders. We present over 200 theater, music and dance performances a year and hold community forums on racial justice, gentrification, and police/community relations. ​
