Idio-Maths is a collaborative performative lecture by Sprechgesang Institute on personal equations and our individual relationships with math over time. Math often seems somewhat of a mystery for those of us not directly in the field. This lecture taps into our day-to-day calculations which go easily unnoticed, shedding light on the extraordinary quickness of mind, body, and space on a semi-subconscious level. Part theatrical argument, part workshop, part panel discussion, the overlapping themes of Idio-Maths are determined by the individual interests and expertise of each lecturer, including a painter, a writer, a neuroscientist, a cheesemonger, and a cellist. This piece is an extension of the Sprechgesang Institute Lecture Series, aiming to facilitate discussion of the unexpected parallels between seemingly disparate practices.
