Exhibition opening - 'Maps'

  • FiveMyles 558 St Johns Place Crown Heights, Brooklyn USA (map)

FiveMyles presents Maps, a two-person exhibition with Betty Yu and Sari Carel. The exhibition is a part of an artist residency at KODA. Betty Yu’s Mapping Indigenous Black and Asian Resilience and Resistance uncovers stories from Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn that date back 500 years, the original ancestral lands of the Lenape nation respectfully. Harkening back to the time when art and natural sciences were intimately intertwined, Sari Carel's project is inspired by the 19th century artist/scientist Anna Atkins. Her series, City Of Trees, focuses on the reciprocal relationship between New-Yorkers and the leafy community of trees we share our city with, while exploring a unique map dedicated to the city's urban forest.

Curated by Klaudia Ofwona Draber and Nadine Braquetti.

Maps is on view December 4 - January 2, 2022.
