Resilience
This screening presents two films by Julia O’Farrow, that detail an on-going project “Tee-shirt tales” which examines stories behind tee-shirt wearers and creators. On this journey I’ve met quite a few creators of tees.
The three artists featured in this documentary share the trait of overcoming obstacles in the pursuit of their dreams. Naderson a Haitian immigrant who was plagued by a near death experience that left him traumatized as a child uses Art as therapy, Nyree who suffered a severe spinal cord injury after being shot at the age of 19, unable to use her arms or legs finds some independence through mouth-painting, and Hasan an amputee whose dreams were deflated by an abusive and unsupportive Ex, did a lot of soul-searching and self-motivation to pursue his dream of setting up a tee-shirt stand, even while living in a shelter rather than share an apartment with his EX.
All three find passion through Art and creating.
