Paul Zelevansky will give a short performance titled The Other Room, which will be followed by a conversation with critic, scholar and curator Seph Rodney.
About the performance:
Have you heard the one about the Moron who was so bashful that he had to go into the other room to change his mind?
The Other Room incorporates video, music, sound effects, and various memories and speculations about time and experience, public and private. It is in essence, an enactment of the collaging and assembling of fragments that my sculpture relies on, leavened by jokes, visual and verbal recollections, and cultural references. Comedian Henny Youngman, a duet with Bernadette Peters, Japanese toys, a trip to Vietnam, and the NYC subway all play a role.
