Jovani Plunkett presents Di Jurnalz, a self-written and directed play reenacting digital journals he made as a way to creatively chronicle his journey of growth and self-discovery.
The use of journals has been a critical part of my personal growth and self-discovery journey. However, keeping a private journal can sometimes feel like a solitary experience. So, I decided to create a public journal series through Instagram stories to share my thoughts, feelings, and reflections on my therapy sessions with a wider audience.
At first, the idea of opening up about my personal struggles and experiences so publicly was daunting. I worried about judgment, rejection, and backlash. But, I also knew that sharing my story could help others feel less alone and inspire them to seek help and support.
So, I started sharing snippets of my thoughts, feelings, and reflections on my Instagram stories every day. Some days, I would focus on specific topics, like self-love, boundaries, or anxiety. Other days, I would share whatever was on my mind and allow my followers to see the raw and authentic parts of my journey. Through my public journal series, I hoped to create a safe and supportive space where others could feel seen, heard, and validated.
What made my public journal series unique was my commitment to using my creativity to highlight the stories and experiences of others in my community. I featured local artists, entrepreneurs, and activists who were doing inspiring work to make a difference. Through their stories, I hoped to showcase the diverse voices and perspectives that make our community so unique.
