Strings by Tuce Yasak is a light/darkness/mixed media installation using various tools such as strings, knots, still images, texts, letters and collected objects to externalize the artist’s internal landscape through metaphors.
Centered within the installation is the intention to create a safe and brave space for "emotional archiving" and the grieving process in the context of intimate and intercultural relationships and ambiguous loss.
Strings is an attempt for me to release the burden of Yasak’s heart and spirit by documenting/archiving emotions/memories, claiming space and existence, and navigating invisibility within the American society and culture/practice of 'love-ing'; as well as questioning the universality of love through the lens of an immigrant.
This deeply personal work imagines a relatable and intersectional environment for the spectators and Yasak by creating an opening for connection around shared human experience of love and grief through light and darkness. The performance aspect of this work is a ritual and an invitation for a journey to the beyond of the deep grief, where true love lives.
