Confluence: Artists’ Books at Five Myles
Curated by Marian Griffiths
Exhibiting artists include Manuel Acevedo, Sanford Biggers, Terry Boddie, Helene Brandt, Lesley Dill, Kaleta Doolin, Shane W. Evans, Gene Flores, Matt Freedman, DeWitt Godfrey, Caren Heft, Suellen Glashausser, Marina Gutierrez, Yoko Inoue Louise McCagg, Sabra Moore, Veronica Ryan, Maura Sheehan, Robbin Silverberg, and Barbara Valenta.
This exhibition brings together a group of 21 artists, some established and some just arriving on the scene, each with a special and innovative take on the book form.
Included in this lively exhibition will be books made of shattered glass, welded steel, nails, aluminum panels, paperbags and pins; there will be flip books, foldouts, popups and accordions, as well as a huge cartoon book, a giant scroll and a book with three dimensional characters bolted to the cover. Work will be wall-mounted, hanging from the ceiling and lying flat on tables. There will also be two traditional paper books with text and illustrations – a coming of age story – and a story about a hepcat.
