EYES ON AFRICA
Eyes on Africa features images of Africa as seen through the lenses of Associated Press photographers and videographers. The exhibition celebrates these photojournalists and videojournalists who work often anonymously and under dangerous conditions to share images of Africa, in conflict and at peace, with the rest of the world.
The exhibition includes some 350 images, many taken by Pulitzer Prize winning photographers, including Jean-Mark Bouju and Brennan Linsley. These images, projected continuously onto two silk screens, show the present day reality of Africa; the suffering as well as the joy of the African people.
Enlarged photographs are exhibited on the walls. Video projection and a sound installation complete the exhibition. All images are from The Associated Press and were taken between 1997 and 1999.
Eyes on Africa is being held at five myles, an exhibition and performance space in Brooklyn named after Myles Tierney, an Associated Press Television News producer shot and killed on January 10, 1999, on assignment in Sierra Leone.
