KLONDIKE AND SNOW
Directed by STEPHANIE MNOOKIN
Tickets $15
Klondike and Snow, a new theater piece developed through improvisation by the Bill Hussy Stephenson group looks at the peculiar phenomenon of daytime TV interviews and talk shows. Utilizing the quirky frame of two motherless polar bears and a cross-country biker, who reluctantly gain fame and notoriety through media appearances, and drawing upon actual transcripts from television, these interviews are conducted by the actors with an uncanny mimicry of the real thing. At the same time several interviewees appear on stage, intent on confessing their innermost secrets to millions of TV viewers.
Under the direction of Stephanie Mnookin this work is performed with wit and straight-faced comedy. The confessions of the overweight woman, as performed by Mnookin, become a moving statement on human frailty in spite of the typically cliched dialogue that transpires between the woman and the interviewer. This laid-back production lets the interviews speak for themselves. By removing them from the TV screen and placing them in the mouths of real live actors, the dialogues manifest an unintentional and strange humor. The Bill Hussy Stephenson group creates new work through improvisation for theater and film. Its members are Patrick Farrell, Larry Grimm, Eliot Laurence, Patrick McCaffrey and Stephanie Mnookin.
Klondike and Snow has been workshopped at the Ontological Downstairs Series and at New Actor’s Workshop.
