LookingGood - Summer at FiveMyles

Wendy Hirschberg - michael britto - The Neighborhood

on view: August 12 - September 9, 2006

This summer’s Artist in Residence at five myles, the sculptor Wendy Hirschberg, has constructed a large architectonic work – a dynamic geometric drawing in space, made from wood and metal – white against the grey gallery walls.  She is also collaborating with the neighborhood in a kind of walk-in art making event, that has resulted in several extraordinary pieces of sculpture made by budding young artists, including a sleek and elegant wall installation by Janee Pittman.

Wendy Hirschberg has exhibited at W139 and Shores Galleries in Amsterdam, at Croxapox in Brussels, Sabina Lee Gallery in LA, Citicorp in NYC and others. Her recent large installation “Incident: No. 47” at Holland Tunnel Gallery in Williamsburg will be showcased at the closing party via digital video. Her most recent reviews appeared in Sculpture Magazine and Modern Painter.

The photographer Michael Britto exhibits his series The Spirit of Carnival. These 14” x 11” unframed photographs show the exuberant celebration of the carnival in Trinidad. They also convey Mr. Britto’s love of the Island. The prints are made from the original transparency, on high quality archival “cibachrome” paper.

Michael Britto, a professional photographer who has worked on many commercial projects, among other venues has exhibited his work at the Rhode Island School of Design, at CUNY , NY, at Brown University and at the Brooklyn Public Library.
