Make my circle just

FiveMyles is pleased to present AV Ryan: Make my circle just as our final exhibition before closing our doors on July 31, 2025. Curated by Hanne Tierney, the survey presents sculptures, a steel construction and panel paintings from the past ten years. The artist translates her background and interest in philosophy and symbolic geometry into beautifully crafted sculptures and wall works.
Make my circle just draws from two bodies of work: gravitas, soft folded forms made from paper and inner tubes, and swing an arc, a series based on the arc of the compass used to construct a cube. Her work is motivated by the form of the circle as both tool and method to reanimate the experience of space.
The artist writes: The question of how to raise a structure from plan to elevation has an almost mystical character for me. My recent work revolves around the arc of the compass used to construct a cube. If the cube were a dwelling, the arc raises the roof. The arc, like the circle of which it is part, is the cube's condition of possibility. But while the cube is both the starting and vanishing point of this work, it is this other dimension I wish to bring to light.
An essay by Nicholas Cueva, AV: Soft architecture, accompanies the exhibition.
