Moving Pictures
A dance and photography project, conceived and directed by Julie Lemberger.
The neighborhood children of St. Johns Place in Crown Heights, Brooklyn are invited to participate in a dance and dance photography project that will culminate in an exhibition of the children’s photographs. Children ages 8 - 15 will learn dance forms and create their own dance designs. The children will also learn how to use a camera and take photographs to provide them with the means to see their dances, their movements and each other in a new way.
This project intends to teach the children the basics of dance and the pleasure of looking and seeing. The resulting photographs are exhibited at five myles.
Julie Lemberger studied dance with Bill T. Jones, Mark Morris, Wendy Perron and David Howard. She photographs dance for the New York Times, New York Magazine, Dance Magazine and others. With Moving Pictures five myles continues the neighborhood dance connection established last Fall when five myles organized and presented the local children and teenagers in a dance performance at the Brooklyn Museum during the museum’s hip hop exhibition.
Moving Pictures has been funded by The Brooklyn Arts Council.
