April through July FiveMyles performers are making music in the blossoming Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. A series of outdoor musical happenings will take place on the open lawns and in tucked away corners. Join us in the daytime and afternoons on selected dates in April, May, and July for bold sounds under sun-dappled canopies.

April 17

Djembe Drumming Ministry

The ministry was founded more than ten years ago by Dr. Ava Jolley, the reverend of First Baptist Church of Crown Heights. The group has performed in churches and centers across Brooklyn. Evan Ferguson and Jayden Fuller are high school students at Frank Sinatra and Beacon High School respectively and were mentored by Dr. Jolley.

The Ministry will perform at 3pm, 4pm, and 5pm, in 20 minute segments.

April 25

Animal Songs

Adam Fisher sings his hilarious original animal songs, accompanying himself on the cello. He has shared his unique cello improvisations everywhere from major New York jazz clubs to Carnegie Hall.

Adam will perform at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm, in 20 minute segments.

May 2

Keisha St. Joan and her ensemble

Legendary song stylist Keisha St. Joan has gathered her ensemble to present an afternoon of the joys of jazz and blues. For the past 50 years Keisha has sung herself into the hearts of the public. She has performed at Alice Tully Hall, Windows of the World, the American Folk Art Museum, the Blue Note in Athens Greece and in many other spaces and places during her long career.

Keisha and her band will perform at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm, in 20 minute segments.

august 12

The Green Mambo

Stefan Zeniuk leads The Green Mambo through the joyous and infectious music of 1950s-era latin mambos, rockambos, and danzons. Built for the dancing and relaxing crowd, this band filters their sound of slinky grooves and joyful humor through vintage organ sounds with punchy percussion and horns.

The Green Mambo will perform at 6:30pm, for one hour.

Take 2, 3, or 4 trains to Franklin Avenue. Walk two blocks against the traffic on Franklin. Walk ¾ block to 558 St. Johns Place. FiveMyles is within easy walking distance from the Brooklyn Museum.
