five myles stages an old-fashioned Christmas Pageant
FREE to the Public
The event will begin with caroling through the streets of Crown Heights. Led by church choirs from the neighborhood. The caroling culminates outside five myles at 558 St. Johns Place, where a live nativity scene has been set up to await the wise men, angels and shepherds who offer their gifts. Balaro “Pope” Chambers, a remarkably talented resident of St. Johns Place will narrate the story of Christmas, and the children and adults from the neighborhood will perform dances, songs and music to celebrate this first annual Christmas on St. Johns Place. Even the local Police Department will join with a karate demonstration.
The pageant culminates in a candle-lit outdoor concert of carols offered by the choir of St. Mary’s church in Harlem. Everyone is invited to join, hot coffee and cookies will be served
All are invited to come and be part of our Christmas cheer.
Hanne Tierney’s five myles, a new performance and exhibition space in Brooklyn, is dedicated to the presentation of strong experimental work by both established and emerging artists: work that mixes any of the arts in innovative and interesting new ways. The focus of five myles is on the diversity of art and the people who make it.
