A Reading by Ron Singer, Paintings by Elizabeth Yamin

The Promised End is a collection of stories, long and short, about mid-life, old age, and thereafter. The book’s title echoes King Lear’s cry of pain, but the antic voice of the Fool is just as loud.

Over the years, Yamin’s work has appeared in many of Singer’s books, both as cover art and within the texts. Abstract images can encapsulate literary themes, such as anxiety and exuberance, confusion and resolution,  without the narrowing incidental to literal illustration. Accompanying the reading with these paintings bring both to vivid life.

The paintings will be on view from February 6 to 15 in the studio space.

Singer is a lifelong New Yorker who has lived, worked and written about many places in the U.S., and beyond. The Promised End (Unsolicited Press, December 2019) is Singer’s 12th published book. Genres include short fiction, satire, poetry, memoir, and non-fiction. In July 2020, Gravy, a mixed-genre collection about life after 70, will be issued (again, by Unsolicited Press). Singer has recently completed The Real Presence, a historical novel set primarily in Nigeria. He is working on the final installment of the GEISTMANN trilogy, a political thriller/travelogue.  www.ronsinger.net

She has received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship. The Long Look, with photographer John Bartelstone, will open at The Brooklyn Navy Yard in March.  www.elizabethyamin.net
